Are You Stepping on Your Hose?

“If you are not willing to risk the usual you will have to settle for the ordinary.” – Jim Rohn

Have you ever had a moment where you are thinking, “When is it all going to happen? When will I make the money I want, have the clients, be able to build a team and stop working every-waking-moment?”

You get so far down the path in your head, your mental chatter is telling you OMG.. It’s never gonna happen. Oh wait.. my sales are down and someone else just cancelled. What the? I’m doing everything right! Why isn’t this working?

Instead of feeling passion for your business you normally do, you end up second guessing everything and instead of jumping into action you become paralyzed amidst the whirling chaos.

This happened to a client of mine recently.

“I think I need to shift focus. I don’t see how what I’m doing is aligned with my purpose,” she said to me. In her decision to work with me she had stepped up her game and stepped into committing to her business. She was taking on new clients and making more money. Our plan for growth was happening.

Yet, after a trip where she was surrounded by other likeminded entrepreneurs, she found herself struggling with how she was contributing to her client’s well-being. By the time we talked she had just about talked herself out of continuing her business because she felt like others were making a bigger impact.

You see, frequently right before you reach exactly what you have been working so hard for, something happens that causes delay, makes you want to pivot, or even want to stop. I’ve seen my friends and clients go through some mighty crap, like major health issues, family crisis and even being audited by the IRS.

It natural when these things happen to experience stress, however, the more you stress the more you attract that and the more out of balance and impossible everything seems.

When you are energetically out of balance, worrying, panicking, feeling unclear, overwhelmed or plain old just freaking out, you are blocking the flow of positive energy and all of the things that the universe (Higher power, God, etc.) is trying to send you.

My good friend and coach had the perfect analogy. Energy comes through like water in a hose. When you are out of sync you might as well be standing on the hose.

Take your feet off the hose and get back in balance by allowing energy to flow towards you by doing the following:

Move

Anytime those feelings come up, do something else, preferably something that requires movement. Deep breathing, jumping up and down, going for a walk, etc…These movements help to change the way you feel. I’ve said over and over that I will go for a walk or breathe deeply when I am stressed or need to work through a problem. Recently, after a day of seemingly a million small things not going right, I went down to our basement and spent 10 minutes boxing with our 80lb heavy bag… great work out and I felt like a rock star. This small change in change in behavior, shift of focus of uplifting of energy is all it takes to shift a mood and a mindset.

Listen to music

Music energizes, uplifts and calms. I listened to different playlists and artists for different working periods throughout my life. I listen to my Phenomenal Playlist starring Eminem, One Republic and Elle King. when I’m planning, piano music centers me when writing, and I throw on a little Mozart on for deep thinking… Choose your playlists – it will help lift you out of any negative vibrations.

Focus on the positive.

Make a list of everything that has improved or been completed. Several summers ago, I made a 10 page to do list to accomplish. I posted it on my wall and didn’t really look at it again until one day when I was feeling like I nothing I was doing was working. As I went through the list, I realized that I had accomplished 90% of the to-do’s.

Don’t get stuck in the mucky mire of feeling like success and everything you want is out of reach. It’s not. You attract what you focus on. Make sure you focus on what you want to bring into your life and business.

Fabulous analogy. Great tips and reminders on shifting focus by changing what we’re doing or listening to something we like. Thanks, Emi!
