This fashion thing has got to be one of the most frustrating experiences in persistence that I’ve been led through.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

I’ve been on this lonely trek for over 1.5 years with 3 different production teams. I’ve spent thousands of dollars and I still don’t have one finished garment in hand that meets my expectations. I’ve trimmed down my launch collection from 15 pieces to 4 in the hope that my initial offering will be followed by subsequent launches of small collections for my very patiently awaiting clientele.

But enough about me.

Have you ever felt like giving up?

Someone has to talk about this because we all go through it.

Several years ago, I visited a friend of mine who had recently opened a very swanky restaurant/boutique hotel. It took over 3 years to build and prepare for the opening. As she gave me a tour of the absolutely stunningly gorgeous property, she expressed her frustration over something I felt was insignificant. She shared how she had to call to have the contractor tear all of the tile out of the guest rooms and re-do it because the grout was a shade off. 

Details matter.

I flippantly told her that it was such a little thing and that no one would notice – like, what’s the big deal?She looked at me and very matter of factly stated, details matter! 

Clearly, my friend knew what she was talking about because her properties are très hip destinations for A-listers & Celebs.

Every time I’m tempted to quit, I remind myself that all good things take time. Sure, we can rush things, skimp on the details to get something done quickly. And, it will show. Your clients won’t necessarily appreciate all of the attention and time it took to get it right, but they sure will notice what you haven’t done that isn’t excellent. You can never get back that first, very important impression – it will be forever linked to your brand.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well. 

So don’t give up just yet.
