Get Launching!

Is your 9-5 stopping you from launching your dream business?

She did it. I did it. You can do it too. Launching a side business with the goal of quitting your full-time gig is a dream that many women place on their vision board. The one day, the someday, the maybe tomorrow conversations seem to delay the steps needed to just get started. We procrastinate, we create excuses and then years go by and we are still waiting for the right time to launch a business.

I have been there. I know what you are going through. I hear ya. The days pass and then they become years. The book you wanted to write. The coaching business you wanted to start. The consulting firm waiting to launch. Time is not waiting for you. You can no longer wait for another time to get launching.

Here are some tips to help you get started in launching a side business while working fulltime for someone else. My intention is to inspire you to start today on creating your passion through business.

1. VISION// Before you take that first step in the adventurous world of entrepreneurship, consider your vision. I don’t mean “I want to make cupcakes for my business”. I mean dig down real deep and create the big vision. How will your business help the lives of others? How will your work bring joy or betterment to your community? How will your impact make a difference in the people you serve through your business doors? The biggest error I see when women launch side businesses is their vision being limited from the start.  If your goal is to create one cupcake batch and sell it, then go back to the drawing board. Contemplate the grand possibilities. Think big from the start.

2. PRIORITY// Create a schedule of when you will work on the launch of your business and the business itself. Calendar the hours during the week that you will dedicate to your business. It might be 5 am, it might be 10 pm or it might during the weekend. Start off with 5-10 hours a week, and then gradually add more as you get better at certain tasks and become more productive. Prioritize the business. Without prioritization, tomorrow turns into another year.

3. DON’T GIVE UP // You will want to throw in the towel. You will want to not work on the business. You will be tired just thinking of the business.  This won’t be easy. This will require sacrifice and risk. It will be worth it. When you feel like quitting, think of your passion, your commitment, your dedication to create a business you love. Think of your “Why” and allow it to bring you back to the path to your business vision.

Work for yourself, your dream and your passion. The most successful people in the entrepreneurial world didn’t have MBA’s from Ivy league schools. The people that created big businesses started out like you and like me. The secret? They started. They made it a priority. They didn’t quit!

What are you waiting for?
