LaTrice Davis // A FemCity Business Member Interview
- What inspired you to launch your business? In June 2010, my life hit rock bottom. My 2nd divorce shuck me like an earthquake. 3 children, 2 failed marriages and a heart riddled with pain, I was lost. Funny thing is I wasn’t lost because of the failed marriages. It wasn’t the pain of loss, or the uncertainty that shuck my core. It was the realization that I had no idea who I’d become. You see I’d suffered in silence for decades with low self-esteem, little self-worth and depression. Masking it with degrees and a career, two marriages and 3 children. But in June 2010, I came face to face, head on with Me. My business concept, idea, vision came out of me simply committed to taking control of my life and defining my own path. I was determined to live the life God intended for me to live and nothing was going to stand in the way. I am a firm believer that you can change the trajectory of your life by simply changing your mind. The bible says, be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. I believe that to mean, you have to power to live the life you dream of by a simple shift in thought.
- Who were the people that helped you on this path? There have been so many people who have contributed to my personal growth and development in life and in business. I strongly believe that we should be grateful for the people who motivate us, inspire us, challenge us, adore us, tempt us, protect us, comfort us, confront us, test us, provide for us, love us, hate on us, encourage us, correct us, push us, pull us, talk about us, lie on us, celebrate us, exalt us, step on us, and pray for us…. Although they may all be different people, entering our lives at various times and stages. They are all sent to Develop us!!!
- Did you ever think of quitting? If so, how did you shift into moving forward? My business is still in its infancy stages. I am still developing along this journey. I promised myself in 2010 that work the rest of my life to live a better second half. And it has been tough and rewarding at the same time. I see clearly the vision and work every day to bring myself a little closer to the full manifestation. Are there days I tire from the pressure of life and the many sacrifices I make, Yes. Are there days I lay in bed wondering what in the world have I done, Yes? Are there moments I cry because things are so uncertainly, Yes? Do I ever want to quit, No!!! I have nothing to return to. The life I once lived has passed, I must keep moving forward. I don’t want the option to quit. As a professional figure competitor, I have learned to art of the grind, layer focus, and a will that will not die. When I think about the lives I want to impact, quitting is never an option. Someone out there needs to know that although things look bleak and scary and uncertain, if you hold on to your faith in God and you will to success, nothing is impossible.
- What does Business for your soul mean to you? I aspire to touch the lives of people from a real place of authenticity. Business for your soul feels to me like Sunday dinner with your family, warm, inviting, side hurting laughter, moments of honesty, reminiscing, sharing; a familiar place of togetherness. Always walking away with a feeling of fullness and the anticipation of meeting again. People should always walk away ready to come back.
