The outlook of the world these days tends to be very negative. And I believe that negativity comes from the fact that there is so much fear in the collective consciousness.

Fear causes us to become self-protective and to shut ourselves off from others. Fortunately, it’s not really possible to completely cut ourselves off from others, because we are all connected. 

The Light Never Goes Out

Sometimes, it seems easier to let the darkness take us over than to embrace the light. But even in our darkest moments, the light has not gone out. It is still there at your core. 

What happens to so many of us is that we build layers around our core thinking we are protecting ourselves. But we’re not. We’re simply hiding our light. 

We are all born with a purpose, a reason for being here. That purpose is to bring light and love into the world. However, while we are born with an infinite capacity to love, most of us are taught to fear.

When you meditate, you begin to realize that you are not the voice in your head telling you to always be afraid of the world and to constantly mistrust people. Who you are is a person connected to other people. 

Give Yourself the Gift of Awareness

It is important to remember that when we are trapped by fear, we are really trapped by our egos. When we meditate we begin to focus our attention on the light that is both within us and all around us. When we do that, we can change the world.

We change the world one interaction at a time. Since we are all connected, the interaction you have with one person will have a ripple effect. Even when you’re just sitting around thinking about someone, that energy is going someplace! 

Keep Good Company

I was just reading a quote by the Greek philosopher Epictetus who said, “The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.”

As meditation becomes a daily practice for you, some people in your life will naturally fall away. I hear this over and over again. It just happens. In the best case, someone who is very negative will be lifted up by your energy.

But some people may not be ready to change their way of thinking and they will no longer be attracted to you. You will find that those people naturally phase themselves out of your day-to-day life and activities.

However, you’ll find that you’ll attract more positively minded people and that is a great thing! You’ll also become more mindful of what you’re watching, listening to, reading and eating. You’ll want to nourish your body because when you do, you’re supporting your ability to bring positive energy out into the world.
