Your Part in Shifting the World

Your Part in Shifting the World

I wake up often and I’m shocked over the words, sentiments and engagement of humans on social media. More than ever before, I don’t understand the world as it currently stands. In an apparent view of ripped apart chaos held by fragments of humanity, it’s the best time to set an intention to unify and form a stronger community.

With so many women on the forefront of so much these days, I am honored and proud of them all. What an amazing time we live in, in contrast of the days when we had no vote, no say and no voice. I think about the decades of women fighting for what, in daily form, we take for granted.

I wonder what they would say about women now in 2016. I wonder if they would be happy to see so many women serving in greater ways and leaving their impacting mark. I wonder if they would smile seeing FEMS helping one another in business with embracing arms.

In retrospective thought and towards the other end of the spectrum, I wonder if they would shudder and cringe as to the way some women continuously judge other women.

Each barrage of negative comments from women to other women, breaks down the fiber of what our past sisters worked so hard to achieve. Each time a woman chats negatively about another woman for what she wore, how she danced, how her hair looked, a bit of our feministic soul dies.

As we gain more traction in breaking society imposed glass ceilings, I would love it if we could commit to simply not engaging in conversations that bring down other women. If it is a statement that doesn’t lift up another woman, does it need to be shared internally and externally? Where is community and unification in that behavior?

With the election, religion, race and economic differences at the hot spot of conversation, let’s remove the blanket of differences and focus on the component that unifies us. Whether we are white, brown, tall, not so tall or wear a hijab, we are still one. Whether we have three kids, no kids, 5 cats or no dogs, we are still one. We are one.

Let’s focus on the beauty of us all as a collective representation of the love that still exists in this world. As we reach out to one another more than ever before, it will inspire others do to the same. It starts with you.
