Pro-Aging Lessons Learned

I recently had to take a photo of myself for a project … with no make up on.

While in Portugal with our FEMS, I spent the week without my make up bag. I left it home by accident. I did find some tinted sunscreen on the last few days of the trip.

It was very odd at first to show up without makeup.

Here’s what floated in my mind:

  • I look unprofessional without make up on.

  • I’m over 50 and really need makeup.

  • I don’t look polished or prepared for the day without makeup.

I discovered how ridiculous those thoughts were.

Where did I even pick up these thoughts?

It was uncomfortable to dive into these thoughts and reframe them into positive pro-aging thoughts.

I now realize I can look polished and professional with and without makeup on.

And it has nothing to do with being almost 52 years old. That was some narrative that found it’s way spinning in my mind.

What I discovered through this journey was confidence and a sense of deep self-love is what radiates regardless of makeup routines.

Whether you have makeup on or you don’t have makeup on, you’re beautiful.

I am going to stop stressing over societal terms of beauty and aging.

The rest is just various ways and choices on how to show up in this world.

These discussions don’t define us.

People feel our energy, love and vibe … so let’s focus on those elements.

It’s your spirit and love that’s noticed first.

To recap, you’re beautiful with whatever you choose.

Love you.
